Road trips are fun and exciting, and can feel like a real adventure. They can also leave you feeling stiff and sore by the end if you haven’t taken essential steps to ensure comfort and relaxation along the way. Check out these six tips from our team for a more comfortable drive.

  1. Plan Stops Along the Way

While you are more than likely very excited to reach your final destination, driving too long without stopping is not safe or comfortable for anyone. Whether simply pulling off into a rest stop along the interstate, or finding additional sites to take in along the route, stopping every 2 to 3 hours to walk around, possibly switch drivers, and use the restroom is important.

  1. Use or Add Lumbar Support

If your vehicle comes with a lumbar support option, take time to adjust it to meet your specific needs. If your car does not include this feature, don’t worry; adding a lumbar support cushion to your seat is an easy fix. Having the correct lumbar support can decrease restlessness during the drive and prevent a sore back afterward. It can also relieve chronic and acute pain from muscle aches, stenosis, backaches, arthritis, and herniated disks.

  1. Experience the Benefits of Essential Oils

Essential oils not only make the inside of your car smell fresh and clean, but they can also help with mental clarity and physical alertness. There are several DIY ways to diffuse essential oils inside your vehicle including placing a tissue with a few drops of your favorite essential oil on the dash, or add essential oil drops to a piece of cork or wooden clothespin and then connecting it to your car’s air vents. If DIY isn’t your thing, there are also diffusers you can buy that plug into your vehicle’s lighter outlet.

  1. Invest in a Windshield Sun Shade

There is nothing worse than getting into a sweltering hot vehicle. Investing in a quality windshield sun shade not only keeps your car cooler but can also protect your vehicle’s upholstery from fading and cracking under the sun’s rays. Sun shades can be purchased at most auto stores or online. They are available in numerous styles including foldable custom fit, roll-up custom fit, accordion, and universal roll-up.

  1. Make Your Seat Belt More Comfortable

Not only is wearing your seatbelt a critical step in keeping you safe but in most states, it is also the law. An ill-fitting seat belt harness can lead to discomfort like collarbone chafing. Getting a soft seat belt cover that you can slip over the body harness section can help alleviate this pesky problem.

  1. Grab a Fun Steering Wheel Cover

A steering wheel cover not only adds some personal style to your vehicle but can also help eliminate pain in your arms and hands while driving.

Make the most of your road trips, whether short or long by utilizing these simple tips to make them more comfortable.
