You can upgrade this engine to a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, which is capable of producing up to 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive comes standard with the 2020 Escape, but all-wheel drive is optional. Both engine options are paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Meanwhile, the base 2020 Ford EcoSport is powered by a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 123 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. If you opt for the EcoSport, you can upgrade to a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 166 horsepower and 149 pound-feet of torque. The first engine selection powers the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission, while the second option powers all four wheels with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Fuel Efficiency

The Escape earns an estimated 27 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway with the base engine and front-wheel drive, or 25 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway with all-wheel drive. If you upgrade to the 2.0-liter engine option, the Escape earns 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.

The EcoBoost isn’t too far behind the Escape. With the base engine, this SUV earns 27 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The 2.0-liter engine upgrade gets 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

Space

If you’re shopping for an SUV, you are probably on the hunt for something with a spacious interior to accommodate a lot of passengers or cargo. The Ford Escape is a great vehicle for cargo room, offering 33.5 cubic feet of storage space behind the second row of seating. Fold down the second row and you get 65.4 cubic feet of space. On the other hand, the EcoSport offers 20.9 cubic feet of storage space behind the second row and 50 cubic feet with the second row seats folded down.
