2021 Ford Edge
The Edge is a stylish, spacious mid-size SUV. Its cabin has upscale features and high-quality materials, and it provides plenty of space for its passengers. For 2021, it has a new infotainment system and a larger touch screen display. It also gained sound-insulated side windows at every trim level. The ST now comes with a heated steering wheel, and the ST-Line now has a regular power liftgate.
Trim Levels
The SE is the entry-level Edge. It comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic on and off LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, and LED taillights. Ford also gives it active grille shutters and a sporty rear spoiler. Step up to the SEL for LED fog lights, heated side exterior mirrors, and roof rails, or to the ST-Line for 20-inch alloy wheels, a dark grille and dark rear diffuser, dual exhaust tips, and black roof rails. The Titanium offers an upscale look with 19-inch alloy wheels and upgraded daytime running lights, while the ST has a sport-tuned suspension, 20-inch black-painted wheels, and black exterior trim elements.
Engine
All models except the ST get power from a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder gas engine with 250 horsepower. This turbo works with an eight-speed automatic transmission and comes with front-wheel drive unless you opt for the all-wheel-drive system. The ST bumps up the power with its 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine. This puts out 335 horsepower and has a seven-speed automatic transmission. It comes exclusively with all-wheel drive.
Performance
The base turbo engine has plenty of power for most driving situations. If you want some extra zip and like a quick punch of power at acceleration, then the ST has the engine that will make you happy. All the Edge trims are easy to handle and have a suspension that keeps them firmly connected to the road, even when heading around tight corners.
Interior
The Edge has space for five passengers and comfortable seats for a short commuting or a longer trip. Standard features include a power-adjustable driver's seat and dual-zone automatic climate control. The SEL starts with the base SE's features and adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a power-adjustable passenger seat. A step up to the Titanium adds memory settings for the driver's seat and leather upholstery.
Edge's technology starts with an impressive 12-inch touch screen, the new SYNC 4A infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a conversational voice recognition system. Wi-Fi also comes standard along with three USB -A ports and a USB-C port.
Safety Features
Ford's Co-Pilot 360 suite of advanced driver aids comes standard with all 2021 Edge models. It includes features such as automatic high beams, a blind-spot monitor, lane-keep assist, lane-departure alert, and forward collision alert with a mitigation system. The SEL now offers Co-Pilot Assist+ with adaptive cruise control and evasive steering assist, which works with the forward collision mitigation system to provide steering inputs to help avoid a collision. The Ford MyKey system is another standard feature for all Edge models. It allows parents to set parameters for their teen drivers.
